Sleep, Darling
Sleep, darling,
rest your drowsy head
upon my breast,
your hard
body
relaxed and heavy
on our bed.
I watch your closed eyes
and hum softly
a tune
of your best days,
cover you
with a sheet
of night-cool air,
and rest the evening stars upon
your dreams.
I’ve made
into memory
your gentle breathing,
your handsome
bearded face,
silvered in the moon’s rays.
Dream wide
and free, roaming the breadth
of infinity,
where I shall meet you
when night descends
upon me too.
Sleep, darling,
and I will have to take my rest
with you.
